We’re Clare and Eric, and long before we thought about running a bed and breakfast, we were simply two people who loved to travel. For years we assumed the big trips would wait for retirement, the way they do for so many people. Life had other plans.

In her thirties, Clare was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and that diagnosis reshaped how we thought about time and how we spend it. So in 2016, we packed our bags for the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland and spent our days walking from one small inn to the next.

That trip changed something in us. There was a particular kind of hospitality we kept encountering — innkeepers who treated us less like paying guests and more like old friends who’d simply been away too long. A warm meal offered without being asked. A conversation that lasted longer than it needed to.

We came home and couldn’t stop thinking about it, and eventually that feeling became the seed for everything we’ve built since, from a website connecting travelers with the world’s best walking holidays to Clare’s boutique travel agency business.

From Japanese ryokans, homestays in Bulgaria, Airbnb room rentals in Newfoundland, classic Vermont B&Bs, to French chateau work stays — we’ve experienced so many different forms of hospitality.

Bank Street B&B is where all of that comes full circle. We opened these doors because we wanted to offer other travelers what was so generously given to us — a genuine welcome, a comfortable place to rest, and the sense that for a few nights you are more than just a guest passing through — you’re family.
